As summer heats up, island time is only a few minutes away from most of Wauwatosa.
“It’s like walking out of Wauwatosa and into a tropical island,” said Wauwatiki customer Morgan Finke. “The atmosphere feels like a beach party in the Bahamas and the fruity drinks seen to never stop flowing.”
Located at 6502 W. North Ave., Wauwatiki Bar and Grill is still relatively new to the Tosa area.
Complete with a palapa thatched roof, the tropical, island-like hot spot opened last spring.
In true tiki style, the Polynesian themed spot features tiki-style cocktails in an environment that promises to transport you straight to the islands.
Guests are welcomed by intimate spaces inside hut-style booths, where they can enjoy the extensive menu of creatively named drinks.
Beloved favorites like the Mai Tai and Rum Runner grace the drink menu, but there is no end to the list of exciting new things to try, like Island Smoke, Blue Zombie and Creature of the Frey.
Tiki bowls are another obvious crowd pleaser, ranging in price from $35 to $225 for the guest favorite Shiver Me Timbers, a cocktail of goodness that serves up to 10 people.
There are also some fun appetizers, sandwiches, entrees and desserts to sample from, in addition to a full brunch menu on Sundays.
Highlights include customer favorites like the Pupu Platter, “Crack” Fries and the Wauwatiki Melt.
And patrons with gluten sensitivities need not fear: the entire food menu is gluten free.
“The menu and offerings are exciting and promising,” said Hailey Barsch, a Milwaukean who loves finding places like Wauwatiki to eat because of her gluten intolerance. “The drinks are delicious and the drink menu is well built.”
